Returning Student Enrollment
Returning student enrollment instructions for the 2017-18 school year will be emailed to all families the week of July 5, 2017.   It is extremely important this data be updated no later than August 11 to ensure the required residency documentation and Student Health Information (Form D Regulation 9.60.1) is received.  If a computer is needed to complete this registration, please contact Ms. Bird in the Counseling office at birdb@fccps.org / 703-248-5526. .

First Day of School
Students will go directly to their Block 1 class. These assignments will be posted on the windows in the George Mason High School office on Thursday, August 31.  Student schedules will be distributed in their Block 1 class on the first day of school.  The second day of school students will go directly to their Block 2 class.
Students who wish to take the SAT or SAT subject tests on October 7, 2017 may register online over the summer.  Please consult the College Board website regarding the registration deadline.  The web address is www.collegeboard.org.  Students without access to the Internet can also register by requesting a 2017-2018 registration form from the Counseling Office in the fall.  Students may also register for the ACT given on October 28, 2017; the deadline is September 22nd.  The web address is www.actstudent.org
Junior Naviance Session
The GMHS Counselors met with juniors in the beginning of June. The main focus of the meeting was to discuss the steps students will need to take when applying to colleges in the fall. Counselors thoroughly reviewed Naviance and its importance. The students also received an unofficial copy of their transcript along with a copy of their credit check sheet. This shows what courses/SOLs are still needed for graduation based on which diploma type they are pursuing. Please be sure to review these documents with your son/daughter, and contact his/her counselor with any questions.
New Laptop Distribution Information
Returning students will need to return their laptop and exchange it for a new laptop. The Technology Support Team will be available in the George Mason Library on:
  • Wednesday, August 23, from 1-3 p.m. or
  • Thursday, August 24, from 9-11 a.m. and from 1-3 p.m.
Students not available those dates & times can exchange their computer on Thursday, August 31, or September 1 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the GM Library.
Students must backup all files before you come to exchange your laptop.  Please backup all important files to either a personal flash drive or the best option...your Google Drive. Move all files into a folder and drag & drop into your FCCPS Google Drive.
Also, students must clean their laptop before the exchange. All stickers must be removed.  When cleaning the outside of your MacBook Air, first shut down your laptop and unplug the power adapter. Then use a damp, soft, lint-free cloth to clean the laptop's exterior. Avoid getting moisture in any openings. Do not spray liquid directly on the laptop.
Rising 9th graders and new students will need to attend a Personalized Learning Orientation prior to receiving their laptop. Students and their parent/guardian must attend an orientation in order to receive a new laptop. Please sign up using this Eventbrite Link. There will be four orientation/distribution sessions starting in the George Mason Auditorium:
  • August 23 at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m., or
  • August 24 at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m.
If a student is not available during these dates and times, they will be called to the library on the first day of school to receive their laptop.
All students and their parent/guardian will need to sign the Acceptable Use of Electronic Media Agreement before being issued a new laptop. (SB Policy 9.40 & Regulation 9.40 - signature page at the end of 9.40R)

Senior portraits --Make-up Day 1 (coat and tie for men, black drape—provided by the photographer—for women) will be taken July 14, from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. in the Auditorium.
