A Night of Family Fun
#makingourmark2018, #GMHSInternationalNight2018
Mustang Café- All Welcome!
This year the GMHS International Dinner will be held on Wednesday, March 14, at 5:30 p.m. in the Mustang Café.  A “Pot Luck” event, the International Dinner is an annual event hosted by the GMHS International Club and sponsored by the PTSA and ESOL/World Language staff.  Open to all, it is a fun, casual celebration of our diverse Falls Church community with over 300 attendees gathering to enjoy a delicious array of ethnic foods and entertainment with an international flair. It is truly a wonderful family event. For the first time this year, we are proud to be including the IB MYP Personal Project Showcase, which highlights the individual research of each of our sophomores. The Personal Project provides an opportunity for students to produce a truly personal and creative product/outcome and to demonstrate a consolidation of their learning in the MYP.  Guests are encouraged to view the wide variety of projects in the gyms and to talk with our impressive students about how these works were created.

Attendees should bring a favorite entrée, side dish or salad for 8-10 people to share. Disposable containers are advised or please label your dish if you want it returned.  If you do not have time to cook bring a family size dish from one of your favorite local restaurants!!

To raise funds to support a child in India, the International Club will hold a raffle of restaurant gift certificates and other donated items.  Bring your checkbook or cash so you can participate in the raffle.

There will be after dinner entertainment including personal project performances. If you would like to perform, please contact Amanda Crider at or any member of the International Club.

Volunteers are always needed to help with dinner, and as a PTSA sponsored event, cannot happen without volunteers. If you would like to help by contributing extra food or to be part of the kitchen crew, please sign up here:  International Potluck Dinner Sign-up Genius.
If you have any questions, please contact Jacqueline Bruner on   We look forward to seeing you there!   Bon Appétit!

  • The College/Career Center will be conducting a College 101 Senior Panel Night on Thursday, May 3 at 7:00 p.m. in the Mustang Cafe.  Current GMHS seniors will answer all your questions about the college search and application process.  Come learn firsthand what these students feel they did right or what they wish they had done differently.
  • Counselors will meet with juniors through classes in the late spring and explain the college-application process.
  • The Counselors encourage students to sign on regularly to their Family Connections/Naviance account.  This is the way we send emails containing important information – meetings, college rep. visits, appointments, etc.

World Language Testing

During April and May, all students who are not taking an IB or AP exam this year and who are in levels 1-4 of French, Spanish and Mandarin Chinese, will take The ACTFL Assessment of Performance toward Proficiency in Languages (AAPPL) online proficiency assessment. The AAPPL test was developed by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages. Test results will provide data on the speaking, reading, listening and writing proficiency based on national standards. It will also provide valuable feedback to students on their language learning progress as they move through various levels of study. For further information, please contact Holly Garcia, 6-12 WL CTL ( or Kent Foster, GMHS WL Department Leader (
