The First 12 Minutes Drill
Wednesday, October 2nd @ 9:00am

*(Please note the adjusted date)

As a caring and inclusive community for all of our students and families, we recognize that Monday is Rosh Hashanah, and some students may be observing this holiday. To ensure that all students can participate, we are changing the date of our First 12 Minutes Drill to Wednesday, October 2nd at 9:00 a.m.

A Message from Steve Knight, Director of Educational Technology

GMHS strives to continually find better ways to communicate with the school community to ensure all GMHS students and parents/guardians are in the know. One of the many tools our teachers, and your children, use on a daily basis is Schoology. GMHS plans to use new features of Schoology throughout the year as we transition towards Standards-Based Grading. We feel that all families can benefit from this additional communication tool.

You can control notifications on this account to not include School Announcements. Although, we are making changes to limit our school announcements in the future to ensure we don't overwhelm your email inbox. Students should come prepared with sharpened #2 pencils and a calculator. There is no fee for the test. The test will begin promptly at 8:05 a.m. The College Board has provided you with a sample of the Student Answer Sheet Instructions so that you are aware of the background information that will be filled out on the answer sheet.

PSAT student guides for the 10th and 11th grade students have been distributed through their English classes with more information.

PSAT 8/9
9th Grade

On October 16, we will administer the PSAT 8/9 to our 9th graders. The PSAT 8/9 establishes a baseline measurement of a student’s college and career readiness. It tests the same skills and knowledge as the PSAT 10 in a way that makes sense for 9th grade students.  If you have any concerns about your child sitting for this assessment, please contact Mr. Dave Serensits at dserensits@fccps.org.  For more information click here:  PSAT 8/9

Dear GMHS Parents & Guardians,

We need your professional expertise! The Seniors in the George Mason High School Class of 2020 identified careers that are of interest to them, and we are looking for professionals to come to the school and chat with students. Volunteers will be assigned to small groups of students who have shared interests for informal conversation about your education, interests and career paths.

We need lots of "Career Chatters" on Wednesday, October 23 from 9:30 -10:45 am. (15-minute orientation, followed by 55 minute session).

These are the many, varied interests of GMHS Seniors, and we are aiming to have someone to speak with each student. To sign up, complete this registration form by October 16. We need your expertise to help make this a success for the Class of 2020! Thank you!
